With the devastation caused by the 2004 tsunami, the founding monks of our institution undertook extensive social service initiatives. As a result, the people of the region had the opportunity to witness Buddhist monks actively engaged in social service. Recognizing social service as a duty of a monk, they formally established the Wenamulla Social Service Monastic Training Institute in 2007 to provide training to monks in this field.
Over time, considering the evolving needs of the era and the essential educational qualifications required for monastic life, the institute underwent significant development. After much effort, it was transformed into a Diploma in Parivenacharya Service program, also functioning as a pre-service teacher training institute. By 2024, the institution had successfully trained monks as Parivenacharya (monastic teachers), ensuring a high standard of education and expertise. Today, the institution continues to evolve, expanding its academic and professional curriculum. The core focus remains practical research, social work, and hands-on teacher training.
2004 වසරේ පැමිණි සුනාමි ව්‍යසනයත් සමඟ අප ආයතනයේ ආදි කතෘන් වහන්සේලාට විශාල සමාජීය සේවාවක් සිදු කිරීමට සිදු වූ අතර එනිසාවෙන් ප්‍රදේශයේ ජනතාවට සමාජ සේවාවේ නියුතු භික්ෂූන්වහන්සෙල දැකගැනීමට අවස්ථාව සැලසුණි. එම අවස්ථාවේ භික්ෂුවක අතින් සිදුවිය යුතු යුතුකමක් ලෙස සමාජ සේවාව වටහාගත් උන්වහන්සේලා 2007 වසරේ නිල වශයෙන් වේනමුල්ල සමාජ සේවා භික්ෂු අභ්‍යාස ආයතනය අරඹා සමාජ සේවයෙහි භික්ෂූන්වහන්සේලා පුහුණු කිරීම ඇරඹූහ.
පසු කාලීනව යුගයේ අවශ්‍යතාවයන් මත සහ භික්ෂූත්වයට පැවතිය යුතු පෞරුෂය වශයෙන් අධ්‍යාපනය ද සුදුසුකම් ද පාදක කරගනිමින් විශාල උත්සහයකට පසු ආයතනය පරිවෙණාචාර්ය සේවා ඩිප්ලෝමා පාඨමාලාවකට හෙවත් පූර්ව සේවා ගුරු පුහුණූ ආයතනයක් වශයෙන් සංවර්ධනය කරගන්නා ලදී. එම මාර්ගයේ ඉදිරියටම පැමිණි ආයතනය 2024 වර්ෂය වනවිටත් ස්ථිර වශයෙන්ම පරිවෙණාචාර්ය සේවයේ ගුරුවරුන් වශයෙන් භික්ෂූන් වහන්සේලා පුහුණු කළ අතර එම පත්වීම් සඳහා ඉහළ ශ්‍රේණියක් ද හිමි කීරිමට සමත් විය. මේ වනවිට එය තවදුරටත් සංවර්ධනය වී ඇත. එමෙන් ම වෘත්තීමය හා ශාස්ත්‍රීය වශයෙන් විෂයමාලාවක් පවතින අතර ඉන් ප්‍රධාන තැනක් ගන්නේ ක්‍රියාමූලික පර්‍යේෂණය නොහොත් සමාජ වැඩ සහ ප්‍රායෝගික ගුරු පුහුණුව යි.
The primary goal of the institute is to train monks for social service and equip them with the necessary skills to contribute effectively to society. As part of their institutional guidance, every three years, monks engaged in academic activities are required to undertake a social service project or research-based intervention on a social issue and provide appropriate solutions.
